A bettor earned a substantial sum on the ouster of Venezuela's president just before it was officially announced, raising questions about the possibility of profiting from confidential information of the event.

Sudden Shift in Forecasts

Bets placed on the crypto-platform, an online prediction market, that the leader would be removed from office by the close of the month surged in the period preceding President Donald Trump declared on the weekend that the Venezuelan leader had been seized.

One account, which became a member in December and took four positions, all on political events in Venezuela, earned over $436,000 from a initial bet of over $32,000.

It remains unclear. This unidentified trader had only a blockchain identifier for identification.

Probability Spikes Before News Break

Platform data shows that traders estimated the likelihood of a political change at just 6.5% in the afternoon of the prior Friday.

However the market's assessment had climbed to over 10% by shortly before midnight and surged in the morning of January 3rd, pointing to a rapid movement in positions right before the public announcement was made.

"This specific wager has all the hallmarks of a trade based on confidential knowledge," said an industry expert.

An official representative for another major platform said their site "strictly forbids trading on insider information of any form."
